LT. JOHN J. NESBITT, JR. - WORLD WAR II SERVICE / ORDNANCE OCS 1943
ACCORDING TO THE CLASS GRADUATION BOOK FOR COMPANY N, CLASS 39, ORDNANCE OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOL, ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, MARYLAND, THE CLASS ARRIVED AS "BEDRAGGLED STRANGERS STAGGERING UNDER (THE) WEIGHT OF BARRACKS BAGS (AND THEIR LAST FLING FOR MONTHS)...IN THAT LAST STORMY WEEK-END OF JANUARY, 1943." THE ORDNANCE SCHOOL INSIGNIA FROM THAT ERA IS PICTURED TO THE LEFT AND BELOW THAT IS THE COVER OF THE CLASS BOOK.

THE CLASS BOOK ALSO REPORTS THAT "OUR DAYS WERE FILLED WITH ORGANIZATION OF THE ARMY, DEPOT AND SUPPLY, INTERIOR GUARD, MAP READING, SERVICE RECORDS, REQUISITIONS AND PERSONAL HISTORIES, TESTS AND "POP" QUIZZES; OUR NIGHTS WITH BLITZ CLOTHS, SHOE POLISH AND CRAMMING IN THE STUDY HALL WITH THE CIRCULAR SEATS.  UNDER MENTAL AND VERBAL FIRE FROM MORN TO NIGHT; HOW WE LOVED IT!"   THEN IT IS REPORTED THAT "CAME THE FOURTH WEEK...  IT CULMINATED IN THE "HIT PARADE" WHEREIN EVERY CANDIDATE LOOKED HIS BEST AND HOPED THAT THERE WERE AT LEAST FIVE NUMBERS BELOW HIS ON THE LIST.  THAT AND THE "WASHOUT" BOARDS WERE THE FIRST BIG HURTLES.  WE HAD TO SAY, "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME", TO SOME BUDDIES, AND THEN BUCKLE DOWN TO WORK AGAIN."            
COMPANY N HAD FIVE PLATOONS.  THE MEN OF THE FOURTH PLATOON FROM THE COMPANY GRADUATION BOOK ARE PICTURED TO THE RIGHT.  J. J. NESBITT, JR. IS SECOND FROM THE RIGHT IN THE SECOND ROW.  HIS OCS CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY DATED MAY 15, 1943 APPEARS BELOW, AND BELOW THAT ARE THREE SETS OF COMPANY PHOTOS FROM THE GRADUATION BOOK.
