NESBITT WAS THE CENSOR AND HE CLEARED THE 430TH ORDNACE TIRE REPAIR COMPANY PHOTOS TAKEN DURING THE WAR.  TO THE RIGHT IS THE FACE OF THE FRENCH EASTER POSTCARD THAT LT. NESBITT SENT HOME TO HIS WIFE IN 1945.
ON "3 AUG 45" LT. NESBITT WROTE HOME FROM LE HAVRE, FRANCE TO HIS WIFE, MY MOTHER:

"ON JUNE 20 WE RECEIVED WORD AT LA LOUVIERE THAT WE WERE GOING TO MOVE AND GO TO THE PACIFIC BY THE WAY OF THE STATES WITH A THIRTY OR MORE DAYS LEAVE IN THE STATES.

WE LEFT LA LOUVIERE ON JULY 8 FOR CAMP CHICAGO WHICH IS LOCATED ABOUT THREE MILES OUTSIDE OF LEON, FRANCE.  THERE WE WERE PROCESSED AND ALL NECESSARY SHIPPING ROSTERS MADE UP AND ALL OF OUR COMPANY EQUIPMENT TURNED IN.  ON JULY, 26 WE LEFT CAMP CHICAGO FOR CAMP LUCKY STRIKE WHICH IS ABOUT THIRTY FIVE MILES FROM THE PORT OF LE HAVRE, FRANCE.  WE WERE TO BE LOADED ON THE SHIP TOMORROW FOR SHIPMENT TO THE STATES AND WE HAVE JUST RECEIVED WORD THAT IT HAS NOW BEEN CINCELLED AND WE ARE
NOT GOING TO RETURN TO THE STATES. . . WE DO NOT KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING BUT UNDERSTAND THAT WE WILL EITHER RETURN TO BELGIUM OR GO INTO GERMANY.  WE SHOULD KNOW IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS JUST WHERE WE ARE GOING."

SUBSEQUENTLY,  1ST LT. NESBITT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE 425TH ORDNANCE TIRE REPAIR COMPANY.  IN NOVEMBER HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE 556TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT AUTOMATIC WEAPONS BATTALION LOCATED AT CAMP TOP HAT ON THE OUTSKIIRTS OF ANTWERP, WHICH HE DESCRIBES IN A LETTER HOME TO HIS BROTHER ALBERT: "THIS IS ONE OF THE CAMPS THE BOYS COME TO WHEN THEY ARE GOING HOME.  HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT MY REASON FOR BEING HERE.  THE 556 IS ONE OF TWO BN. OPERATING THIS CAMP AND MY JOB HERE WILL BE ONE OF ADMINISTRATION.  THIS OUTFIT IS NOT ONE TO GO INTO THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION BUT WILL STAY HERE UNTIL THIS CAMP IS CLOSED, WHCH THEY EXPECT TO BE AROUND MARCH.  IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY FINE PLACE BUT IT IS GOING TO BE AWFULLY COLD HERE."
LT. NESBITT RECEIVED HIS ORDERS HOME DATED 3 JANUARY 1946, AND HIS WESTERN UNION TELEGRAM HOME FROM "ANTWERPEN" TO MOTHER IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ WHERE WE WERE LIVING READS; "APPLICATION APPROVED HOME IN THREE OR FOUR WEEKS LOVE = JOHN."

LT. NESBITT RETURNED TO THE FAMILY BUSINESS IN PHILADELPHIA WHERE HE RESUMED HIS POSITION AS HEAD OF MARKETING AND WE MOVED BACK TO  PHILADELPHIA AND DEERFIELD FARM, AMBLER, PA.

ALMOST TWENTY YEARS LATER, JUNE, 1964, HE  RETURNED WITH MOTHER AND ME TO LA LOUVIERE TO REVISIT FRIENDS AND PLACES FAMILIAR TO HIM FROM THE WAR.
