430th ORDNANCE TIRE REPAIR COMPANY, ADDITIONAL TRAINING PHOTOS (SCREEN 2 OF 2)
THE TOP THREE  PHOTOS SHOW INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE 430th ORDNANCE TIRE REPAIR COMPANY IN TRAINING, AS DOES THE ABOVE LEFT PHOTO OF TWO G.I.s IN THE JEEP WITH THE  EXPLOSIVES SIGN.  IN HER LETTER TO MOTHER, MRS. EICHER IDENTIFIED THE TOP LEFT PHOTO AS THAT OF HER HUSBAND, WRITING ON THE BACK OF THE PHOTO: "THIS IS THE OTHER HALF OF THE CORPORATION. NICKNAME "SMOKEY."

THE ABOVE RIGHT TWO PHOTOS OF WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE GRAND CANYON ARE INCLUDED WITH THE PHOTOS AND LETTER FROM MRS. EICHER.  NOTE THE G.I. IN THE TOP PHOTO.  THEY ARE TAKEN WITH A DIFFERENT CAMERA THAN THE TRAINING PHOTOS AND MAY BE FROM A SCENIC TRIP TAKEN WHILE ON LEAVE FROM TRAINING IN TEXAS.

THE PHOTO TO THE LEFT COULD BE FROM THE RED RIVER TRAINING CAMP, OR IT COULD EVEN BE FROM GEORGIA.  MY WIFE AND I LIVED IN ATLANTA FOR A FEW YEARS IN THE LATE 1970'S AND MY OFFICE WAS ON PEACHTREE STREET NEAR BROOKWOOD STATION.  WHILE VISITING US, AND SEEING BROOKWOOD STATION, DAD RELATED THAT THE 430th ORNANCE TIRE REPAIR COMPANY HAD BEEN SENT TO A CAMP IN GEORGIA, SOUTH OF ATLANTA, WHERE IT HAD TO BE QUALIFIED FOR PROFICIENCY IN ORDER TO BE SENT TO THE EUROPEAN THEATER.  HE FURTHER RELATED THAT WHEN THE COMPANY RECEIVED ITS SATISFACTORY PROFICIENCY RATING IT WAS ORDERED TO BALTIMORE TO EMBARK ON A TRANSPORT SHIP FOR ENGLAND. THE MEN WERE TRUCKED UP TO ATLANTA, AND AS EXECUTIVE OFFICER DAD SAID HE WENT AHEAD TO ARRANGE THE RAIL TRANSPORT FROM ATLANTA'S BROOKWOOD STATION ON TO BALTIMORE.  THERE WERE TOO MANY MEN TO BE EMBARKED FROM THE STATION, SO DAD SAID THAT HE GOT HOLD OF A TRAINMAN AND THEY WENT DOWN THE TRACKS AND FLAGGED DOWN THE NORTHBOUND TRAIN.  THE COMPANY WAS BROUGHT UP AND THE MEN BOARDED THE TRAIN BEFORE IT WENT ON TO THE STATION FOR ITS REGULAR PASSENGERS.
